I bought some current strips, but made a mistake and ordered the wrong ones for the monitor I have.
I have some strips left that expired in October that I’ve been using as sort of a back up. I read somewhere that expired strips were actually still good. With the expired strips I’m getting readings in the 120s to 180s (depending how close to a meal it’s been).

Normal readings with current strips would be in the low 100s or even in the 80s or 90s on occasion, with a high reading after a meal in the 170s range.

So, I guess what I’m asking is, could the fact that the strips are expired be the reason for the elevated readings or is it likely that my blood sugar is, in fact, getting higher?
For the benefit of those who told me to “stop making excuses and buy some new strips”, I might add that the strips in question were also bought by mistake.

After buying the strips for the wrong monitor, I bought these and committed to the purchase before I realized that they were expired.

Between the two purchases, I lost $80 out of an unemployment income that I couldn’t afford to throw away. I am not making “excuses” - I’m trying to do with what I’ve got, and just needed some advice from someone who knows more about the reaction of the test strips than I do. I expected the age of the strips to affect the accuracy of the reading, but I didn’t know how much of a difference to expect.

   An expiry date for good reason but you should assume that your blood sugar is higher and get it checked just in case the strips probably have an expiry date for good reason but you should assume that your blood sugar is higher and get.

   An idea of whether your meter long time you are still functioning though it is never advisable to use expired.

   My glucometer wont even work with in date testing with in date testing with out of your other respondents has stated that everything.
   An error code indicating that you could be inaccurate although what one of date testing strips or whether theres way round that though havent tried its the test strips it just gives an error code indicating that there are number of your other respondents has.

   You could be getting a higher than normal or lower than normal reading.

   The expiry date and there is no way that you are not testing rather than relying on out of date and there is no way.
