Do you monitor your blood daily? What blood monitor device do you recommend?

Crispy_Frog asked:

I have low blood sugar and the doctor told me to get a blood monitor to check my blood daily. I don’t know where to start! There are ones that say: “5 second results”, “No coding.” It’s a whole new language. There is quite a selection of devices in a wide price range. What is an accurate, easy-to-use monitor that is reasonably priced? I can spend a few bucks, but I don’t want to get ripped off and spend more than I need to. Do you have to buy testing strips, too? Any tricks to keeping the prices low?
Thank you for taking the time to answer this quesiton!

Is hypoglycemia “low blood sugar” diabetes?

SandyMiller asked:

I’m 24 years old suffering from low blood sugar some how some way.

I have gone through the glucose test a while back my doctor thinks my blood sugar is normal.
Well my blood sugar was stable 80-90’s. I was worried.

6 months go by and the symptoms hit me and I feel worse and I’m in this dizzy feeling like passing out.

I don’t even know if I am diabetic.

I have been having low blood sugar on and off for the past 6th months my readings have been 51, 64 , and I feel bad when it hits the low point when I am 70 and I know my blood sugar is going to drop low I can feel it.

I got my first test strips of 100 for my Aviva Ac-cu-check last month to be sure about this.

I have changed my diet the best I can!
I have even stopped drinking caffeinated drinks that includes my favorite Coffee…
I have emergency sugar ,but I just keep feeling worse.

I do not know what to do , but maybe I should see a different doctor , or take the glucose test again?

Anyway my doctor scripted out those glucose test strips , and I had one hell of a conflict with the Walgreens Pharmacy, and other pharmacies like Kmart which caused me a hurtful embarrassment that I don’t think anyone suffering hypoglycemia should suffer.

My doctor was wanting me to monitor my low blood sugar , and for some reason I got chewed out for not being diabetic and NO YOU CAN”T HAVE TEST STRIPS..

And I’m saying I don’t even know if I am diabetic , but even if you are hypoglycemia is that really the signs of diabetes?

What kind of doctor would do this to a young patient in pain?

I could die if they can’t determine whether I’m diabetic or not because I hurt , and I am reaching out to the people across the internet tell me what hypoglycemia is!!!!

is this blood sugar too low or possibly an error? (62)?

SilverSky asked:

I got a blood sugar reading today of 62 and it’s the lowest reading i’ve ever gotten. it was a fasting reading at 8:00 in the morning. I”m not a diabetic but i got a high glucose number on a routine blood test once (111) so since then i’ve been keeping a watch on my blood sugar just in case i might have a problem in the future. most of the time it’s in the 70 - 80 - 90’s range but this reading this morning freaked me out. also my strips are kind of old so could this cause an error?
also i’ve gotten 2 a1c tests and my result both times was 5.3 so my doctor has already checked that out and so far i’m normal.
and no i felt normal before testing so i didn’t feel like i had low blood sugar.

I recently lost lots of weight and my diabetes meds were causing low blood sugar so I quit taking them?

Angel in Captivity asked:

I have been off of them for a good 5 months already and just kinda forgot about my diabetes. I just assumed I was doing good because I felt just fine until about a month ago I started getting unusually fatigued. It just got worse and worse until I couldn’t hardly get out of bed anymore. I finally realized that it could be my blood sugar after all this time but I can’t monitor it bc I need some strips but my question is: Has anyone out there experienced anything similar to this with their diabetes when it gets out of control? Does your fatigue just continue to get worse until you die or get it under control?
I have begun taking meds again now to control it.
