I’m not drawing enough blood from my fingers for my testing strip. Any advice regarding this?

alan a asked:

I would like to take the glucose tests from my fingers. I use the Abbott glucose meter called Optium. The lancet gauge is 30. I am very new at using meters as I was just diagnosed with type 2 diabetes on February 29th. I will be seeing my physician on April l5th, but I wanted to know what my glucose levels are currently, so I purchased a meter.

Massage your hands from the palm down to the fingertip you plan on pricking.

Also make sure the setting on your plunger is high enough to penetrate the skin…i usually keep mine on 4.

  6. Absinthe-minded Says:

Keep your number highest on the finger pricker, and try to warm it before so there is more circulation….good luck.

As some people already answered, run your fingers under warm water and/or massage them right before pricking them. Also, don’t clean them with alcohol or Purel - this dries them up and causes less blood to come out.

Some times new users tend to pull fingers away from the lancette.
Push a little harder and only use the sides of your fingers.
