How do one touch ultra testing strips work?

i opened the machine and there seems to be two electrodes that run between the blood and i guess the computer does the equation. It seems the strip just acts as a plate for the blood. Can anyone tell me if this is correct or if the strip itself has some chemical on it, etc. Thanks

    An ultra mini mines the same way looked in my owners manual and didnt see anything about it.

    The strip does have chemicals in it works.
