Do they still make blood glucose test strips that don’t require a meter?
Filed Under Blood Glucose Strips | 1 Comment
I don’t need it to be precise, I just want a general idea of whether or not my blood glucose level is getting too high. My little brother used to have this little jug of strips that he would use and just compare the color to the color on the jug. That’s what I’m after. Do they still make these?

Of the substances that diffused through the bag, did all of the molecules diffuse out?
Filed Under Blood Glucose Strips | 1 Comment
We will dialyze a solution of glucose and starch to observe:
The directional movement of glucose and starch.
The effect of a selectively permeable membrane.
In this lab, we will be using an indicator to test for the presence of starch and glucose. An indicator is a
substance that changes color when in the presence of the substance it indicates.
Experimental Protocol
Materials needed:
Glucose solution (M.W. =180g/mole)
1% starch solution (M.W. = >15,000g/mole)
Lugol’s solution (Potassium iodine)
4 glucose test strips
*15cm piece of dialysis tubing
(4) 100ml beaker
*Water
4 small rubber bands
7 graduated pipettes
*Watch or timer

i went to the endocrinologists and diabetic classes and learned how to check glucose levels with the machine and test strips..due to failing the 3 hour gestational diaetes glucose test.she had us take a test there, after breakfast. it was 82. then after lunch..82 again! then i had a snack..then had dinner..checked it two hours after dinner..92. these numbers seem normal and i have not changed my diet except for swapping chips for an apple for 1 of my snack times. i feel ok..my sugars are Normal..so do i really have gestational diabetes?!? what will the endocrinologist do now that my numbers are consistantly normal..??

Why are the 1 Touch ultra test strips the best test trips in the U.S?
Filed Under Blood Glucose Strips | 2 Comments
I don’t really need to know the answer, I’m just curious. Is it the best because it has the most exact number? Once at the doctor’s office I checked my glucose on the hospital monitor, then on the 1 touch ultra link at the same time. Not exactly the same time but about a 30 second difference. And the numbers on both monitors had almost a 20 number difference! For example: 1 monitor said I was 100 and the other said I was 120. Is it because it’s the smallest test strip? I don’t know but I want to know! Email me the answer at connorlancewright@yahoo.com

I have Type 2 Diabetes, and I am searching for a good glucometer to use. Any suggestions?
Filed Under Blood Glucose Strips | 3 Comments
At first, I was using the Bayer Ascensia Breeze2, but since I can get some free strips from my father in law, I switched to a One Touch Ultra Mini. However, the Ultra Mini has been having incredibly inaccurate results, and their Warranty department doesn’t recognize this as a faulty, because it’s still within their ranges. (Example, my fasting glucose one morning with this meter was 105, versus what the clinic tested with an actual blood drawn sample, of 137.) As compared to the Breeze2, it has also come out about 30-32 points inconsistent. I have already ordered some strips for the Breeze, as I feel more comfortable with it… but has anyone else had this problem? And are you now on a new meter you really love, and which one? Thanks for all the pointers.

Diffusion lab question?
Filed Under Blood Glucose Strips | 1 Comment
Ok so theres this question thats really confuzing me. Can someone explain this to me with the answer?
IKI (iodine potassium iodine), when mixed with starch, reacts to cause a color change from clear to a blue/black. Glucose test strips are impregnated with a chemical that will change color when exposed to glucose. Given this information, which substance(s) do you believe diffused in or out of the dialysis tubing?
Divya, what substance?
