I need advice from any nurses or doctors out there?
Filed Under Blood Glucose Strips | Comments Off
My dad has hepatits C. I was carrying in a plastic bag for him, and he blood glucose meter was in there. He had left in a used test strip. It poked through the plastic bag and scraped my leg (I was wearing shorts). I immediately doused it with alcohol. What else should I do? Do you think I am infected now? I’m pretty sure it broke through the skin slightly because I have a scratch line visible.

My mother is diabetic, and she has to check and monitor her blood sugar. With her machine she has to prick her finger and put blood sample on strip, to read. Well she had dropped her machine in the sink with water, now every timee she turns it on it reads E6. She does not have the instruction manual and she dropped it with the machine in the case.

Help! Am I diabetic? Blood sugar level is 330?
Filed Under Blood Glucose Strips | Comments Off
I tested my blood sugar the other morning with a kit (where you prick your finger and drop blood onto the testing strip) and it was 330! The last time I tested it, which has been about year ago, it was normal. Am I for sure diabetic? I don’t eat a lot of sweets, but since I have been living with my boyfriend for the past six months, I’ve eaten mostly fried/starchy foods so I know that’s probably what it is. If I just exercise and eat right will that bring it back down to normal?

Non-diabetic low blood sugar?
Filed Under Blood Glucose Strips | Comments Off
My mother is diabetic(I am not), and we were talking about her blood sugar testing machine- the one that pricks your finger and you place the blood on a strip for the machine to test. I decided to see what my blood sugar level was and was a little startled to see that it read as 83. I am a 28 year old female, I am in good shape, get a decent amount of exercise, and tested myself about and hour and a half after I ate lunch. Is 83 normal or is it low? Should I go see a doctor?

What does a lab tech do to conduct a blood test?
Filed Under Blood Glucose Strips | Comments Off
After blood is drawn and sent to the lab, what steps are involved to get the results? For example, does the lab tech add a drop of blood onto a test strip and see color change? Or is a flow cytometer involved somewhere? Is DNA analysis involved?

How can I purchase an inexpensive blood glucose monitor & strips w/o a prescription?
Filed Under Blood Glucose Strips | 4 Comments
I pass my blood glucose test but something is not right, so I’m going to keep a log to try to show my doctor. He doesn’t think anything is wrong with me, so I can’t get any discount with my insurance. What is the cheapest way to get hold of a monitoring kit?
Not that it’s relevant to the question, but starting when I was pregnant I would have a hyperglycemic episode after I ate certain meals. Three years later, I’ve just learned to deal with it by watching my diet but I still underestimate it occasionally and it makes my life miserable.

Blood oral glucose test (the test where I swallow sugar solution)?
Filed Under Blood Glucose Strips | 1 Comment
okay so I took a blood meter strip test, and my blood sugar was 106.
I had a high blood sugar according to the blood test I took at the doctor, it was 104. (This was before I took the blood meter strip test)
So anyway, I took the oral blood glucose test, when i got home a few hours late rmy throat felt dry, and I should tell you. (I only drank a little bit of water) I NEVER had dry throat before.
Symtoms of high glucose blodo because of the test? Diabeties? Give me your honesty.
What do you think?
