Tired of Outdated Programs asked:

Due to a change in my insurance plan, I will have either have to pay a lot more for my test strips and other suppliers or get a new blood glucose meter. I have decided to get a new meter.

Does anyone accept old meters so that they can be distributed to others who can not afford a meter or for some other purpose? My meters are relatively current models - One Touch Ultra series.
After recieving the first four answers, I was a bit disappointed. There are people all over the world who have diabetes and who can not access the so called “free” meters from the manufacturers. I am looking for an organization who accepts used meters and who has the resources to distribute them as well as the supplies that are needed to use the meters. For anyone who say a used meter is useless, please open up your mind to all the possibilities……….

i have been diagnosed with Gestational Diabetes. My doctor wants me to go to a diabetic clinic and let them tell me how to eat and get a meter. He said that i could take my sugars 4 times a day for 2 weeks and then bring the meter in. If my sugars are fine then i wont have to watch them anymore.
My question is who pays for that. I have insurance but no perscription drug benefits (meaning if i have a perscription then i pay for it). I dont know how much the stuff is??

In a lab, we used a test strip to test for glucose in many substances. One question is “why did you test the lactase extract powder (in water) with a test strip?”

He peed the rug which is out of character for him and had some bladder infections before as well as surgery for bladder stones 3 years ago.I figured it was an infection and tested the urine with the test strip. The urine glucose was off the chart but no ketones. He’s been thirstier recently but acts fine. Can I wait til Monday (it’s 12:30 am Sunday to get him to the vet? Is he in danger right now? Please help!

Hi, I’m looking for a blood monitor for my dad who now has diabetes. We are very new to this common illness and are unfamiliar with the use of blood monitors. Since we are unemployed and don’t have much money to spare, we cannot afford very pricey tools to control this. Are there such monitors that can simply be used by just itself and no other required purchases, especially the strips and lancets (just by constantly santizing the machine before and after every use)?
Hope someone has an answer… THANKS A LOT.

To obtain energy from starch and glycogen, the body must begin by

A. hydrolyzing the starch to glucose and the glycogen to amino acids.
B. hydrolyzing both starch and glycogen to glucose.
C. converting both starch and glycogen to fatty acids.
D. removing nitrogen atoms from both molecules.
E. None of the choices are correct.

When proteins are used as a source of energy for the body, the proteins

A. are converted into glucose molecules, which are fed into glycolysis.
B. are converted mainly into pyruvic acid, acetyl CoA, or a Krebs cycle intermediate and then
processed by the Krebs cycle and chemiosmosis.
C. are hydrolyzed to their constituent amino acids; electrons are stripped from the amino acids
and passed to the electron transport chain.
D. are hydrolyzed to glycerols and then converted to glyceraldehyde 3-phosphate, which is fed
into glycolysis.
E. are hydrolyzed to fatty acids and converted to acetyl CoA, which enters the Krebs cycle.

I just began checking my glucose level after a morning fasting test showed it to be 200. I took the test to my doctor when my husband had an appointment. He said I need to be on meds but did not prescribe any. His nurse (on her own) gave me a meter and test strips. I have cut all sugars that I can think of from my diet, or that I know are turning to sugars, Now my readings range from the 150’s to 230’s. I did have a little mayo on a turkey sandwich (on Natures Own wheat bread) for lunch and a banana..about 4 hours ago, and now my reading is 228. I am going to make an appointment with him this coming week and take all my readings. I have back and knee problems so walking and exercize is difficult, but will that bring it down quickly? My ears ringing..is that diabetes as well? That has been going on for a long time now. I am a hundred pounds overweight. I cut out all soft drinks and sweet tea, virtually all salt and lost 23 pounds in about 5 months. That had to do with my weight, before I discovered I probably have diabetes. thanks!
