Aloha! asked:

I just got my new onetouch ultra mini today.
I’m doing the control solution testing and I tried it a few different times (My mom gave me some extra strips)

On the first test It read (under the ctl screen) 123
One the section test it read 138
on the third test it read 126
on the fourth test it read 133

Is this normal for the ranges to jump like that?

Also, what exactly is the correct ranges I should be using when NOT in control mode? because NOTHING was listed in the book.
I have “been” using (previous to using this new meter):
Pre-meal mg/dl 80-120
Post-meal mg/dl < 180
Bedtime glucose mg/dl 100-140
hba1c % < 7

is that about right??
Hi JayNetR, Thank you for your help!
Just to update, I AM making sure to use the correct coding. :) I didn't even think to look on the bottle of solution. So, I just did that, and all that is on the bottle is the directions for how to use it on the strips, the expiration date and the lot#.
So, I guess I'm sol there. haha.
Thank you again!

Question 1
In the combined processes of glycolysis and cellular respiration, what is consumed and what is produced?
Choose one answer.
a. Oxygen is consumed, and glucose is produced.
b. Glucose is consumed, and carbon dioxide is produced.
c. ATP is consumed, and oxygen is produced.
d. Water is consumed, and ATP is produced.
e. Carbon dioxide is consumed, and water is produced.
Question 2

A glucose molecule is completely broken down to carbon dioxide and water in glycolysis and the citric acid cycle, but together these two processes yield only a few molecules of ATP. What happened to most of the energy that the cell obtains from the oxidation of glucose?
Choose one answer.
a. It is stored in the ATP that was formed by glycolysis and the citric acid cycle.
b. It was lost as heat.
c. It is stored in NADH.
d. It is stored in pyruvate.
e. It is stored in the carbon dioxide and water molecules released by these processes.
Question 3

The electrons stripped from glucose in cellular respiration end up in which compound?
Choose one answer.
a. ATP
b. carbon dioxide
c. NADH
d. oxygen
e. water
Question 4

Which of the following statements is correct about the chemiosmotic synthesis of ATP?
Choose one answer.
a. The energy for production of ATP from ADP comes directly from a gradient of electrons across the inner mitochondrial membrane.
b. Oxygen participates directly in the reaction that makes ATP from ADP and P.
c. The chemiosmotic synthesis of ATP requires that the electron transport in the inner mitochondrial membrane be coupled to proton transport across the same membrane.
d. The first two choices are correct.

And was handed a glucose monitor kit with instructions
to taking a reading twice daily…
The kit which is nice, only contains enough ‘test strips’
for 5 days worth of readings…
I am guessing I must get these strips at a pharmacy,
but do I need a prescription to get them?
Thanks!

My cat is fat, lethargic, and drinks a lot of water. I checked his urine with urine reagent strips, and glucose is negative. Does this mean that he doesn’t have diabetes, of is it possible that he has it but it doesn’t show in the urine? Zusje if you read this, please tell me, as I know you have learnt everything about diabetes recently.
