friend not changing habits?
Filed Under Blood Glucose Strips | 3 Comments
well I have this good male friend who I have known for about 17 years, we are both in our mid 30’s. He has been overweight/obese most of his adult life.
He has been through a lot and if I was to psychoanalize I’ d say he gets comfort from food.
He has had the symptoms of diabetes for several years, but due to a routine phylical at work they actually diagnosed his diabetes. He was given medicine and presciption for a tester.
Problem is ever since then he has not changed a thing, he has even gained more weight.
He really doesn’t care, and I feel like this is the ” you can lead a horse to water ” theory.
I have bought him diabetic cookbooks etc, when we have a get together I bring healthy foods, when I cook I get the complaing, why I use skinny freaks ingredients.
And fat tastes better, that’s why his Prime Rib is juicy and my NY strip dry. I feel like I did all I could. I went to see him the other day and insisted We take his glucose level and they were over 400.
I am exaspareted

Photosynthesis Comic Strip?
Filed Under Blood Glucose Strips | 1 Comment
Ok we’re having our Biology class project which is the making of Comic strip… That comic strip will be based on our topic which is the Photosynthesis (particularly the ways by which the Hydrogen and light energy passes through from the soil to the stem and how did it splits and made a glucose with the Light energy) it includes the Light and Dark reaction but the problem is i really don’t know how the photosynthesis occurs.. which ways and where ways the substances are passing through to make their own fruits.. And i don’t also have any idea on which or what representation should i use in representing the substances… It must be artistic like those of adventures… like “The adventures of the Lovers; H2 and O” or should it be a superheroes rescuing someone or lovers trying to recover each other or what so ever… Please help me in this project guys.. I really need your help..

Is there a website where I can professional advice on whether or not I can switch from 1 insulin to another?
Filed Under Blood Glucose Strips | 6 Comments
This is for my mother. She does not have any kind of health insurance or prescription drug coverage. Her brother gets glucose strips ‘which is extremely expensive’ and also some insulin that he can not use. He gave it all to my mother. Right now we do not have the money to pay for a doctors appointment so that we might ask him if it would be okay to take. If you know anywhere where I can tell what she is taking now and what she would like to switch to. We don’t have very much money you sell between buying insulin, syringes, and glucose strips it adds up to a lot of money every month. We need our help that we can get.

How much do glucose meters cost?
Filed Under Blood Glucose Strips | 12 Comments
I need to get one for a project. I’ve heard they’re a lot of money, but I looked around online and saw one for about $10, it probably isn’t as good, doesn’t come with enough test strips either, but its only a project, so I don’t need anything special. Does anyone know how much they cost? And a store that I could buy them at? Ex. Meijer, Target, K-Mart, Walgreens, Walmart, etc.
And I’m only testing 5 people once a week for four weeks. So I only need 20 test strips.

Biology Permeability Lab Help?
Filed Under Blood Glucose Strips | 2 Comments
These are the instructions to a lab that I totally messed up badly. Can anyone help explain to me what will happen so I can complete the lab questions?
1. Cut the dialysis bag into three (3) 10 cm strips. Fold over a very small portion of the end of the dialysis tube and tie the end with the string as tightly as possible without breaking the bag.
2. The first bag will contain 15 ml of glucose solution, the second bag will contain 15 ml of starch solution, and the third bag will contain only 15 ml of water. After adding the 15 ml of the respective solution to each bag, tie the other end allowing a few centimeters of air.
3. Weigh each dialysis bag using the scale, and record.
4. Add 100 ml of water to each of the three beakers.
5. Include results of the water test prior to the actual test and a column for results for 24 hours after adding the dialysis tube containing solution.
6. Test for the presence of glucose and starch in the various beakers of water.

i’m doing a bio project, testing the effect of pH on immoblized and non-immoblized enzymes, using invertase enzyme and sucrose solution. BUT the only way to test for glucose is through a diabetes strip thing, however when changing pH i will get different colours( ie pH1= red…etc) and when i pour this pH 1 solution into the enzyme/sucrose solution it will change colour. After that i would put the strip inside the test tube, but i will not see the colour change of the strip with this different colour (made by the pH) and i would not be able to tell how much glucose there is in there!!! HELPPP, HOW DO I FIX THIS PROBLEM!!
thanks for your help, sorry about the explanation!
the problem is I CANT take a reading, if the acidic pH is red.

I’m sure my hamster as diabetes. She drinks excesivley, is loosing weight despite the fact her appetite has increased, is less active than normal and her eye sight does not seem to be as good as it use to be. However I used the Keto-Diastix reagent strips using her urine and both the Keytones and Glucose are Negative. Does this mean her body isn’t producing any sugar? So should i feed her a sugar diet? Any suggestions on what type of diet to feed her? Thank you!
