I’ve just (finally) started giving my cat (Sheba) insulin for diabetes. I am supposed to be testing her urine for sugar and ketones (using the strips) twice a day. Any suggestions on how to get the urine sample? So far, have tried putting saran wrap over the litter, but not sure this is going to be a very practical solution.

Also, any tricks on giving the insulin shot easily and without much discomfort for the cat?

Finally, any suggestions for how to raise money to pay for my cat’s medical expenses, as this is proving a bigger financial burden (when added to everything else) than I can really afford at the moment (hopefully will change soon, with new work contract)?

Thanks

They are the Ultra Touch Test Strips. My prescription plan does not cover the test strips. Any suggestions would be great!

My wife is a very brittle type one diabetic and tests her blood sugar a dozen or more times a day. Her doctor told her a study indicated a half dozen was enough and wrote her perscription accordingly. Help!

I need Ascensia Contour test strips and Microlet lancets. I am on a tight budget and wanted to get some idea before I go to the store.
Will most insurance pay for these items?
Holy Cow! I had no idea that it would cost so much.

I’m currently in the early stages of looking into transferring to the USA from the UK within my company, but am a Type-1 Diabetic and am completely ignorant of how the healthcare system works in America. Obviously, everything is provided free of charge here in the UK but I want to have an idea of what costs I might be facing if I get the opportunity to work in the US.

My employer provides health insurance but I don’t have any details yet. Typically, would an insurer still meet any of the costs for medical supplies for people with pre-existing conditions? Also, roughly what is the cost of insulin and test strips? I use Humalog and Lantus (pens) and One-Touch strips. I’m also idly wondering if there was any reason why I couldn’t get a relative in the UK to FedEx my medicines over to the US each month…

Any information anyone could give would be much appreciated!

She is 50 and just found out she has diabeties. She does not have medical insurance where she works and is not on medicare or medicaid. I have done a little research about this online and everything I found, you had to have insurance or be on medicare. She has neither, and the test strips she needs cost $50 a pack. With the medications she is already paying for, it could create a hardship. Thanks for any advice you might have.
