how do you know it’s really diet and not sugar-laden?

Is there anything you can use to be sure it’s sugar-free? Like your blood or urine test strips?

is there any way, other than finding an expiration date, to tell if ketone test strips are expired?

My dad has cut his testing down to twice a week to save on his test strips since they are expensive for him. He was testing daily. Perhaps testing twice a week is sufficient. His doctor said it would be fine. His blood sugar stays pretty stable, but in the past, has had problems with it being too high. He has Medicare, AARP supplement insurance, and goes to the VA clinic for appts. Is there a way to get test strips at a reduced rate? I thought his insurance would pay for them or partially at least, but he is buying them himself. I am considering sending him some money to help pay on them, if the doctor says he ever needs to be checking it more often. So how safe is it that he is only checking twice a week? I’m not impressed with his doctor, so I hope he is being honest with my dad on testing twice a week asw being fine. Anyone with diabetes that could advise?

Hey everyone,
Hey everyone,
My brother is a diabetic and he got a new testing kit so he gave me his old one (and about 10 test strips)
I’ve been testing my blood (Really whats the harm!) and I don’t understand the results.
Day 1: 1.8 ML
Day 2: 2.2 ML
and today I was back at 1.9ML.
What do these mean? My brother always gets 6, 7, or 8… Whats normal?
Thanks!

If you have done this, tell me how to fit a good diabetic plan into a $1200/mo budget w/o health insurance?

I do have a glucometer and a big supply of test strips and lancets from being on pregnancy medical - but that ends in three months - I have about a year of supplies. Our family budget eats up about all of the $1200. Although our work is somewhat seasonal and sometimes we make up to $2100 I just can’t be sure we have an extra $500/mo to buy health ins. premiums (that doesn’t cover hardly anything)….when the extra income is not guaranteed. We are RARELY sick so I don’t even see the point There’s got to be a more reasonable plan. I have really focused on getting a garden going this year and trying to cook more at home. But what else can I do to make sure I am healthy, w/o health insurance, as a prediabetic/or possibly type 2 diabetic (I was diagnosed during pregnancy but have had these symptoms for the last 10 years so i want to continue to monitor my blood sugar.) what did you do, if you are in this same situation? Please don’t tell me to eat whole grains - I am allergic.
