I’m moving to the UK on a Working Holidaymaker visa. Since I can’t get on the NHS, how much will my meds cost?
Filed Under Blood Glucose Strips | 3 Comments
I am a Type 2 diabetic and take the following medication:
- Novorapid (fast-acting inulin)
- NPH (intermediate insulin)
- Glucophage (metformin)
- Synthroid (for hypothyroidism)
- Needles for insulin pens, diabetic testing strips, etc.
I would just like to get an idea of how much I’ll have to spend on my medication each month so I can sort out my budget.
Any information would be appreciated.
Thanks!

Looking to see if anyone has had problem with the Freedom Freestyle meter.
I am a pre-diabetic that is using diet and exercise to stay off diabetic meds.
My Dr asked me to test twice daily. Started in March.
Using a Freesyle Lite meter and have had 2 meters within 2 months go faulty. Both gave me extremely high readings, 478, retook the test within a minute down to 165. withing another minute down to 157.
Reported it to the maker, Abbott both times. First time they sent me 2 meters and 200 test strips. I returned the faulty meter.
This time I emailed Abbott and told them I no longer trust their meter and had I been taking meds to lower my sugar I could have been in trouble. Also asked if they made them in China.
Pretty bad, just want to know if anyone else has experienced this and if so hopefully you didn’t take medication after a very high reading.
May 29th, Abbott Labs called me regarding my email and the faulty meter. Told them I couldn’t trust the readings since this has occured twice in about the same length of time on each meter. Told them I would try again however it would be the last time. Told them I am looking for an accurate meter.
I do wash my hands for each test and use my finger which they tell me is actually the best. They also told me to take it to my doctors office and have a test done there and do the meter at the same time.
They asked me to try one more time, sent me a new kit today.
They did say their meters are made in China.
I did send an email to the FDA’s link asking them to investigate the accuracy of this particular meter.
Again it’s the Freedom Freestyle LITE.
Thanks for the two responses.

How do I afford my diabetes supplies with no insurance?
Filed Under Blood Glucose Strips | 6 Comments
There has GOT to be some kind of program for students who have diabetes and go to school full time. I am not going to a regular university so they dont have medical aid. Theres no way in hell I can afford $150 a month for insulin and $200 a month for test strips or any of that. I was thinking about the everyone benefits program but that only pays a small percentage of the cost. Are poor diabetics just meant to fall over and die or what? I do not think so! What do all you other no insurance diabetics do out there to afford your supplies, any one know of anything at ALL that would help me?

Can I buy One Touch diabetic testing strips at pharmacies in Morocco?

I know they have Accu-Chek and a few other brands, but I use One Touch.
I will take several with me when I visit, but I wonder about their availability for when I plan to return there to live…

I am a type two diabetic. I get my test strips at Target - easypro -?
Filed Under Blood Glucose Strips | 2 Comments
because, as we all know, they are the cheapest. However, Target is hard to get to, particularly as I have no car. And a lot of them don’t have pharmacies. Is there a way to order easypro strips in the mail? I’ve already looked on the Target site.
